Powder coating is a special coating process that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the main elements of standard paint in liquid suspension form.
The coating is typically applied electro-statically and is then cured under heat in a large, purpose-specific oven to allow it to flow and form a “skin”. The powder(s) used are forms of very durable polymers which create a hard finish that is tougher and longer lasting than conventional paint.
